Throughout our business careers we all have 'highlights', below
are some of mine (1986-2009). I hope you would like to work with me.

1986: Ron (my husband) and I formed The Environmental Project Consulting Group. This prolific, highly respected company, works at the cutting edge of science, planning and the environment.

EPCG Ltd
1994: Awarded the Open University Certificate in Small Business Management as part of their Small Business Programme. This intensive, comprehensive pilot course was aimed at those who wished to work with businesses with 60 or less staff, the area in which I specialise. Exams held at Reading University.
BBC/OU Filming
1994/5: I was featured as a major case study for BBC/Open University television programme, 'Build a Better Business' which was shown extensively on BBC2. This was as a result of my Open University studies and was a very memorable and enjoyable occasion. I have also frequently contributed to radio programmes.
More filming
1996 to date: Proposed, founded and chaired the East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Chamber continues to go from strength to strength, contributing to the economy of the district, its businesses and the community.
EHCCI
1998: Proposed and founded the Environment Committee for the Portsmouth and South East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which evolved into the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Business Environment Forum. Chaired the committee and the forum.
BEF
1996-2001: Active participant on East Hampshire District Council's Economic Development Panel and subsequent sub-committee.
EHDC
1999/2000: Proposed, organised, engaged speakers and designed the literature for the sell out conference 'Building the Future for Hampshire' - funded by Government Office for the South East. This heralded the launch of the BEF and the guest speaker was Hilary Neal, Head of the Biodiversity Secretariat, Department of Transport, Environment and the Regions.

This hugely successful conference, held at Old Thorns Golf and Country Club, Liphook featured, 'Planning for Real', an interactive mock planning application issue based play written by Ron Allen. The 'actors' were experts in their own fields and included Ian Ellis, Planning Control Manager, East Hampshire District Council; Andrew Morris, Bewley Homes plc; Paul White, Miller Hughes Architects; Ian Davidson-Watts, English Nature; Ron Allen, Ecolgical/Environmental Consultant; Mary Allen, Narrator

1999: In partnership with my husband Ron, wrote the highly regarded 'Easy Step by Step Guide to Developing Environmentally Sensitive Land - The Business Approach'.

1999: Assisted my son (now 25) with setting up and running his two Computer and Internet companies, The Page Designer and Page Hosting. These innovative high-tech companies are growing fast with The Page Designer winning The News Business Excellence Award 'Innovation of the Year' 2003.

2003: June saw the inaugural Hampshire and Isle of Wight Business Environment Awards held at the Great Hall, Winchester. The Environmental Project Consulting Group sponsored the overall winner trophy. 2004 sees us sponsoring the 2004 Sustainable Business Biodiversity Award.

2003: July was the start of learning to fly at Lasham Gliding, Hampshire - exhilarating.

2003: July passed the Open University Course 'Writing for the Internet'. Open University
2003: September - Associate of the Chartered Management Institute. Chartered Management Institute
2003: October - Upgraded to Member of the Chartered Management Institute.

2004: Sponsored the Biodiversity Award for the 2nd Hampshire and Isle of Wight Sustainable Business Awards. Presenting the Award with (l-r) Peter Quarmby of the Environment Agency, television presenter Chris Packham, and Steve Blamaire of Isle of Wight Council collecting the award on behalf of Southland Camping Park. We are sponsoring again in 2005.

2005: On 16 May 2005, I was sent solo gliding. A cable break - for real. So a 180 degree turn and a safe landing, all handled correctly. I felt fantastic!

2005: December - I became part owner of a K6cr glider, BVR (now G-DBVR).

2006: May - Awarded Honorary Life Member of the Portsmouth and South East and East Hampshire Chambers of Commerce and Industry (British Chambers of Commerce Accredited Chamber).

2007: Qualified as a Complementary Therapist in Hopi Ear Candling and Indian Head Massage.

To date: Continuing work on marketing and developing The Environmental Project Consulting Group and the East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry as well as assisting with marketing The Page Designer, Page Hosting and Page e-merge.

Author, maintainer and webmaster of seven websites including East Hampshire Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

  • Through my voluntary work with the East Hampshire Chamber and with the wider business community, I have helped, advised and supported numerous businesses over many years and been involved in a wide range of business activities. I have prepared numerous papers for, and given many presentations to government, local government and business organisations on a wide variety of topics.

  • I am a great believer in Continuing Professional Development and Lifelong Learning and attend conferences, courses and activities which keep my business knowledge and skills sharp and up-to-date.
